CHURCHILL’S ACE Nazi Germany is entering a dangerous period of its existence and a young German boy, Wolf Kruger, dreams of becoming a fighter ace in the feared Luftwaffe. His parents, however, have higher aspirations for their talented son and are beginning to voice concerns over Hitler and his increasingly frightening megalomania, something which ultimately costs them their lives. Meanwhile, in Great Britain, there is a single voice of reason, standing up to the rise of the Nazis and challenging the appeasement of the British government as they give in, time and again, to Hitler’s demands. Winston Churchill warns against allowing the Fuhrer to get away with too much and urges others to make a stand. Little does Churchill and Kruger realize, but their lives are soon to become inextricably intertwined as the boy grows into a man, and the politician in the wilderness grows into one of the most formidable statesmen of the 20th Century. Packed with history, fighter pilots and intrigue, this is the first book in the fast-paced Epic War series, featuring the intellect and persona of Winston Churchill and a host of other memorable characters, including Madeline, Winston's headstrong niece who is a match for any man... or fighter pilot.

Churchill Ace Epic War Series Volume 1 Greg M Sheehan Books

I expected a good work of historical fiction. What I got was an unbelievable story that was full of distracting typos, misspellings (frauline?), grammar and punctuation errors. That a pilot could jump out of a prop plane and into the first jet and fly it without indoctrination was just too much to believe. I was disappointed.

Churchill Ace Epic War Series Volume 1 Greg M Sheehan Books Reviews

I enjoyed reading this book and compliment the author for a fine book. The characters are well fleshed out and well defined. The writer handles all the elements of the story in a manner that puts the reader in the story. The setting is during the war and having Winston Churchill very active in the story, brings it to life. The writer did a wonderful job with Churchill manipulating all the characters.
GMS has written a story that may be fact our fiction. The air battles between British pilots and German pilots Are still talked and written about 75 years later. In this story line there is a German Ace who changes sides after the Nazi's murder his parents. It may be hard for many to comprehend that situation, but it occurred frequently during the war. The theft of the ME 262 probably occurred, but we time secrets last a long time. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
The story line is a very good one and although a bit far fetched, is still entertaining. The quotes attributed to Winston Churchill are fun to read all by themselves. The main characters are well described and developed parallel to the story. If you like flying, the basic interest is right in line with a pilot's viewpoint most of the time. Quite a fun read.
As a fan of world war II novels, I found this to be quick and factual. I'm a fan of short chapters and by following the events back and forth between war fronts the author uses the short chapter and back and forth action to keep the author involved. I'm also a "student" of Winston Churchill and have read much about his life and found that this does a commendable job of painting the portrait of this most complicated man. I still gave the book 5 stars, but the author is in need of a good proof reader as there are far too many typos and other errors that should have been caught before publication. It doesn't hurt the story but is a distraction.
Some of this book is way beyond the fanciful Our hero becomes a Spitfire ace on his very first flight in one. Of the hundreds of fighter aces, only about 25 made "Ace in a day" and absolutely none of them did it in a completely unfamiliar aircraft. Then, what is even more fantastical is that our hero went back to Germany and stole a ME-262 prototype from the Luftwaffe for the RAF to evaluate. Based on any reasonable time construction this event occurred in the fall of 1940. The historical fact that the author forgot about is that the ME-262 never left the ground under jet power until July 18, 1942. It had made prior flights with a propeller engine, but the Germans were having a terrible time developing the Junkers Jumo 004 jet engines that eventually powered the ME-262.

Fiction is one thing. Ludicrous fancy is another.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but the typos and errors were pretty hard to ignore. It was action packed, but rough around the edges. If it were properly edited, I would give it 4 1/2 stars.
Greg M. Sheehan had a pretty good idea when he came up with "Churchill's Ace."
Set in the early days of World War II, with a cast of characters that includes Winston Churchill, Sheehan takes his readers into the lives of a German fighter pilot, the Englishwoman he loves and her family, and top-ranking Nazi Party members. That is an interesting and praiseworthy concept for a novel that takes place during one of the most tumultuous periods in modern history.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, the author does not do that concept justice. The dialogue between the characters seems stilted in some cases, overly casual in others, and downright trite on occasion.
The narrative suffers from what I might call "too much good fortune." That is to say, everything works out for the Luftwaffe ace that is the novel's protagonist. He is shot down but survives; he is captured but less than a day later finds himself meeting with Churchill, whom he had met before the war. He is then, extraordinarily, allowed to join the RAF. His best friend is shot down but also survives; the same thing happens to the brother of the woman he loves. That woman, whom he hasn't seen in two years, gets engaged to a British pilot but... well, to put it bluntly, our German ace may just be the luckiest man alive both in love and war.
To sum up A pretty good idea for a novel but ultimately, in my opinion it doesn't work as well as it could - should - have.
